With the financial and technical support from the European Commission an extensive air quality monitoring network was established in the northern part of Cyprus, currently operating nine stationary monitoring stations. According to their typology, there are four traffic stations, one urban background, three industrial and one rural background. See above for a detailed description of the stations.
In addition to the stations mentioned below, Turkish Cypriot community benefits also from a mobile station with the capacity to measure nitrogen oxides/dioxide (NOx/NO2), sulphur dioxide (SO2), particulate matter (PM10/PM2.5), carbon monoxide (CO), and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The mobile station is also equipped with a high-volume sampler.
